View (DJ Naoyaman)

An album made on kit that had spent twenty years in the attic.

Released on 12 April 2019, it reached No. 4 in the UK3 and won Best Dance/Electronic Album at the 62nd Grammy Awards.7

Tom has described setting up a "1997 corner" in his studio, with the samplers from their first two albums.8 That equipment had sat in his attic for some twenty years.11 Ed says the E-MU sampler has a crunch of its own.12

The guests are Aurora from Norway and the Japanese rapper Nene. On the opener, "Eve of Destruction", Nene raps in Japanese, and in the video the two play heroes out of a Japanese tokusatsu show.51314

The voice in the title track comes from a poem by Michael Brownstein, one of the Dial-A-Poem poets of 1970s New York.6

I call it the attic kit. Things they never threw away, switched back on twenty years later.

Translated from the Japanese original.
