“'Free Yourself' is all digital dread”

View (DJ Naoyaman)

It borrows a voice from a poetry project of the late 1960s.

"Free Yourself", released in 2018, came ahead of the following year's album No Geography.³ At its heart are samples from Dial-A-Poem, an experimental project from the late '60s.⁵

Dom and Nic made the video, with dancing robots.³⁶

Tracks from this album were road-tested in DJ sets and big live shows before they were finished, this one among them.⁵

A poet's voice from half a century ago, played on today's dance floor. For me, the best thing about sampling is that leap through time.
