## Masta Killaが最後の枠を得るまで

「Da Mystery of Chessboxin’」の最後を担うMasta Killaは、最初から録音に慣れたMCとして現れたわけではない。2015年のAllHipHopで、このヴァースが初めて腰を据えて書き上げたものだったと説明している。紙を見せたGZAが認めたのは内容の可能性であり、次の課題は、それを声にして伝えることだった。

RBMAの公開対談でMasta Killaは、ほぼ完成したアルバムに一枠だけ残り、自分の言葉で参加を決めたと語る。仲間としてのつながりと、仕事としての加入は別だという説明だった。

ここで聴きたいのは、誰かに勝ったという結末より、書いた言葉を一つのヴァースとして届ける仕事だ。前のMCから曲を受け取り、どこで言葉を区切り、どう終わりへ運ぶのか。GZAの助言を知ったうえで最後のパートに戻れば、歌詞の内容だけでなく、その伝え方にも注意が向く。デビューの逸話を、声の聴き方につなげられる一曲だ。
