## 「Runnin’」で残された、Jay Deeのドラム
「Runnin’」のビートは、そのまま完成形へ進んだわけではない。Slimkid3は2006年の取材で、FatlipがJay Deeのドラムを組み直そうとした際、元の形を残すために衝突したと明かしている。自分たちが迎えたプロデューサーの仕事を、そのまま生かしたかったのだ。

2016年のSkiddleの取材でも、Slimkid3はこの出来事を振り返った。彼にとってドラムのずれ方は、直すべき箇所ではなくJay Deeらしさだったという。決められた形にそろえるより、作った人の癖を残す。その判断が、この曲の制作では争点になった。

出会いをつないだのはQ-Tipだった。The Urban Dailyの取材によれば、Slimkid3たちはQ-Tipの部屋でカセットを聴き、その中に後の「Runnin’」や「Drop」のループがあった。Jay Deeという名前をQ-Tipの別名だと思っていた、という当時の勘違いも本人は話している。

「Runnin’」は1995年の『Labcabincalifornia』からの最初のシングルになった。素材として知られるのはStan Getzの「Saudade Vem Correndo」だが、聴き直すならサンプルの旋律だけでなく、ドラムとの組み合わせにも注目したい。どの音を借りたかに加え、どんなリズムを残そうとしたかを知ると、この曲への入口がもう一つ増える。

Delicious Vinylは「Runnin’」を『Labcabincalifornia』の最初のシングルと紹介。ここでは公式アーティストチャンネルの2025年リマスター音源を掲載し、初出年は1995年として扱う。

Stan GetzとLuiz Bonfáの「Saudade Vem Correndo」を使用。サンプル関係はFlower Recordsの公式解説で照合。元音源は『Jazz Samba Encore!』のUMG正規配信で、1963年の原盤表記を確認した。
