## 録り直した声にも、最初の声が残っている。

2004年2月のインタビューでKanyeは、映像の費用を自分で負担し、ラジオに届けるため独立したプロモーターも起用したと語っている。 「Through The Wire」は、曲を書くことと、その曲が届く場所を作ることが隣り合った一曲として辿れる。ここでは2003年の商業発売版を、2004年の『The College Dropout』に収めた音源を選ぶ。公式配信は制作をKanye、録音をFrancis Graham、ミックスをManny Marroquinと記す。 事故後の録音という逸話には版の区別が欠かせない。音楽研究者Jeremy Tatarは、初期ミックステープ版と後の再録版を比較している。 現在選んだアルバム版のすべての声を、顎を固定したまま録った声だと一括りにはしない。

音楽研究者Jeremy Tatarは、2003年の再録版にも、最初の版から残されたKanyeのアドリブがあると指摘する。新しいラップへ全面的に置き換えただけではない。顎を固定した時期の録音と回復後の録音を区別しつつ、同じ完成版の中に異なる時点の声が共存することまで見ると、「事故の直後に録った曲」という短い紹介では足りない理由が分かる。
