## 終わりのブレイクは、韓国の盤から。

DJ Shadowは2005年、Bill Brewsterの取材で「The Number Song」の終わりのブレイクビートについて話している。素材は、何らかの経路でカリフォルニアへ渡った韓国のレコードだったという。取材は後にRed Bull Music Academyが再掲載した。

この証言で分かるのは、終盤の素材にまつわる盤の移動だ。演奏者や曲名、どの店で手に入れたかまでは語られていない。曲全体の素材を一枚にまとめて説明する話でもない。

## 制作の背景：サンプラーの制約が音楽になった

1996年のアルバム『Endtroducing.....』を生んだ制作環境は、現在のDAWとは大きく異なる。DJ Shadowは当時、短いサンプルを切り出して重ね、限られた機材の中で音楽の構成を組み上げた。数を数える声も意味を伝える台詞ではなく、リズムを作る素材として機能している。
