## 冒頭の怒りを、制作日の記憶からたどる

El Da Senseiは2006年の取材で、この曲をT-Rayと二人で作ったと振り返る。その日、Tame OneはT-Rayの家に来ていなかった。後で曲を聴いたTameと口論になり、それが冒頭で怒っている理由だという。声の勢いを単なる演技と決めつける前に、本人が語った制作日の出来事を押さえておきたい。

T-Rayが語るのは、もう一つの制作判断だ。「Wrong Side of Da Tracks」を表に据え、「Whassup」を裏に置く。三曲に加え、ボーナス・ビートやアカペラも入れ、DJに必要なものを渡したかったという。1994年の13曲入りCDでは最後に収まる一曲が、12インチでは盤全体の使い方を考えた選曲の一部だった。

Elによれば、録音前にはKool G Rapの「On the Run」を聴いていた。そして後年、この曲を使うバトルDJの話題ではMista Sinistaの扱いに驚いたと答えている。作り手が直前に聴いていた音楽と、完成後にDJが見つけた使い道。その両側が、El自身の証言に残っている。

### 原盤の制作クレジット

「Whassup Now Muthafucka?」は同じ12インチのB面にLP Version（2:24）として収録。レーベルにはT-Rayの制作・ミックスに加え、グループ名義のArtifactsによる共同制作も明記されている。
